ECAS (Entitats Catalanes d’Acció Social) is a federation of Catalonian organizations of social assistance, which works first and foremost with people who are -or may eventually be- socially isolated. The direct assistance offered by the organization members of ECAS, as well as the effort of the Federation to organize such sector, is based on the ongoing fight to get equal opportunities for everybody, as well as on our resolve to make a more egalitarian and fair society. Our aim is to add up all efforts and orchestrate them so as to allow for social inclusion, implement people’s rights, achieve a complete fulfillment of citizenship for everyone, and make for the welfare of all people by creating a society based on commitment and joint responsibility.
ECAS was created in 2003 as a result of joining a number different social networks operating in Catalonia in order to create a forum for exchanging ideas, dialog, and coordination, which is not limited to the affiliated organizations, as it also encompasses the administrations, as well as all other social agents. The Assembly, made up of all affiliated organizations, is the governing body of ECAS. At present, it is made up of over 80 institutions catering for the needs of 795,000 people each year by 8,500 professionals and around 7,500 voluntary workers, men and women.
On this excerpt of the 2009 Yearbook of the Tertiary Social Sector (in catalan), published by the Taula d’entitats del Tercer Sector Social i l’Observatori del Tercer Sector, you can find a breakdown of all Catalonian organizations of social assistance (the organizations they belong to, as well as their activities, financing, economic resources, internal operations, etc.).
